Adhesives
The adhesives industry faces numerous challenges, such as new environmental regulations limiting the use of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), meeting the surging demand for sustainable and environmentally friendly products, and developing high-performance adhesives. Cellulose nanocrystals can help meet these challenges due to their special properties.
Structural adhesives: TONACELL® can be added to structural adhesives such as epoxy, polyurethane and phenolic adhesives to improve their mechanical properties. They enhance the shear strength, stiffness and toughness of the adhesive, resulting in stronger, more durable bonds.
Pressure-sensitive adhesives: TONACELL® can be added to pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA) to improve their bonding properties. For example, they can increase the adhesive's tack for better bonding to low surface energy substrates.
Biodegradable adhesives: TONACELL® can be used as an additive in biodegradable adhesives, e.g. those made from natural polymers such as starch or chitosan. They improve the adhesive strength and water resistance of adhesives while maintaining their biodegradability.
Packaging adhesives: TONACELL® can be used in packaging adhesives, such as those used for laminating films or bonding cartons. They can increase the strength and durability of adhesives while reducing the amount of adhesive required, resulting in more sustainable and cost-effective adhesives.
Electronic adhesives: TONACELL® can be used in electronic adhesives, such as those used to bond electronic components. They improve the mechanical properties of adhesives, resulting in more reliable and durable bonds.
