Aqueous nanocrystalline cellulose solutions with different solid contents can be customised according to customer requirements.
TONACELL® NCC100 is a re-dispersible cellulose nanoparticle powder obtained by hydrolysing microcrystalline cellulose to nano-scale crystal particles using sulfuric acid, followed by washing, purification, surface modification, concentration and spray drying. Its molecular formula can be expressed as (C6H10O5)n, where n represents the number of repeating units in the cellulose chain. The crystal structure of TONACELL® NCC100 actually has a large specific surface area of 700 m2/g and special physicochemical properties.

Redispersion of TONACELL® NCC100
The nanocrystalline cellulose (TONACELL® NCC100) developed and produced by TONACELL is prepared by sulfuric acid hydrolysis and spray dried to obtain NCC in white powder form, which can be easily re-dispersed in water and has excellent water dispersibility. NCC100 can also be dispersed in DMSO and DMF, but it is difficult to be dispersed in most organic solvents such as ethanol, tetrahydrofuran and acetone.
NCC100 can be dispersed in water by the following methods:
1. Homogenisation method: first add a certain amount of water in the container, then add a certain amount of NCC100 (to be added to the water and then add NCC100), and then through the homogeniser homogenised for an appropriate period of time (according to the amount of different homogenisation time will be slightly different, the laboratory level of a few minutes can be general), when there is no obvious lumps or agglomerates, that is, NCC100 dispersion is obtained. The homogeniser is very efficient in homogenising and dispersing NCC100 and is the easiest way to get NCC100 dispersion quickly. After homogenisation, ultrasonic cell crusher can be used to carry out ultrasound for an appropriate period of time, so that better dispersibility of NCC100 dispersion can be obtained.
2. Ultrasonic cell crushing method: in the absence of homogeniser, you can first add NCC100 in a small container, and then add a small amount of water, using ultrasonic cell crusher for the appropriate time of ultrasound, and then add the appropriate amount of water in batches, and then finally transferred to a large container, and then ultrasound, when there is no obvious lumps or agglomerates, that is, NCC100 dispersion is obtained. Depending on the concentration of NCC100, the amount of NCC100 and the ultrasonic power, the dispersion time may be slightly different. When using ultrasonic cell crushing method to prepare more NCC100 dispersion, do not add NCC100 and water into a larger container for ultrasonication at one time, which will be less efficient. 3.
3. Stirring: If there is no ultrasonic and homogeniser, just ordinary mechanical stirring can also achieve NCC100 dispersion, but it takes longer.
